About Mottumars
Mottumars is a national awareness campaign that happens during the month of March.
What is Mottumars?
The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of cancer in men and men’s issues in relation to cancer. Mottumars also raises funds, primarily through the sale of socks, designed specifically for each year’s campaign in collaboration with Icelandic designers. All proceeds are invested in support for patients and their loved ones, cancer research and discovery, prevention and education and advocacy, through the Icelandic Cancer Society.
The focus of this year’s campaign is support. We want to emphasize how important it is to reach out, whether to family and friends or healthcare professionals. Research shows that men seek support less often, even though they have an equal need.
“Takk fyrir” which features prominently in this year’s sock design, is Icelandic for “Thank you”. It represents gratitude on multiple levels; gratitude for personal support and gratitude for the support of the community. No one is alone.
